About Jessica Santascoy

Hi, I’m Jessica.

I’ve been teaching the Alexander Technique for 10 years. Before training to become an instructor, I took private lessons for a little more than two years. So, I’ve been studying the Technique for about 12 years. I participate in a weekly Teachers Meeting held by my mentor, Robert Britton, who has been teaching for over 40 years.

I’m a nationally certified teacher and a consultant to the international board of the Alexander Technique Congress Association (ATCA).

I’ve worked with hundreds of people from all walks of life to eliminate pain and improve their performance, appearance, and breathing.

The essence of my teaching is helping you to release useless tension and learn new habits. It’s really exciting to be able to identify patterns that don’t serve you and change them.

I love, seriously love, teaching the Alexander Technique. I believe in it.

My story - why I learned the Alexander Technique

My body seemed to be failing.

Pain kept me awake at night.  After trying massage, yoga and Rolfing, I finally took lessons in the Alexander Technique.

My knee pain went away -- I could run again.

Neck pain disappeared -- I could work at the computer again.

Walking around the block used to hurt my feet like hell, but after Alexander Technique lessons I could wear high heels. Now I can easily walk 8 miles a day.

Stagefright used to overcome me. Even at meetings, I'd get super shy. But now, I'm okay. I can make it through a meeting and stand up and talk in front of a group.

I completely transformed the way I move and breathe. I didn’t even realize that my breathing was labored and inefficient before the Alexander Technique.

3 years of training

I completed 1,600 hours of training. This consisted of 3 hours a day, 5 days a week for 9 months out of the year. The training was 3 years total.

I studied for a year and a half at the Alexander Educational Center in Berkeley and a year and a half at the American Center for for the Alexander Technique (ACAT) in New York City. My teachers and trainers include Robert Britton, Giora Pinkas, John A. Baron, Brooke Lieb, Judy Stern, Daniel Singer, Barbara Kent, Joan Frost, Hope Martin, and Kim Jessor.

I also studied voice with Beret Arcaya in New York City and Ruth Murray and Alan at the Constructive Teaching Centre in London.
